The District Office Celebrates Project Expansion
This week, a topping-out ceremony celebrated the major renovation of the Bad Kissingen District Office, with Oh Objektplanung proudly contributing to this transformative project.
Project Overview
Complete Makeover
The 40-year-old building is undergoing a complete overhaul. The interior has been fully stripped, and a new louvered facade in corten steel will blend seamlessly with the surrounding architecture, preserving the building’s historical character while enhancing its modern appeal.
Expanding Capacity
The gross floor area will expand to nearly 2,400 square meters, creating space for up to 117 modern workspaces. These include 14 „share-desks“ tailored for part-time and remote employees, ensuring efficient use of space.
Sustainability Upgrades
Environmental considerations have been a central focus of the renovation. The building will feature an energy-efficient heat distribution system, a green rooftop designed to mitigate summer heat, and an anti-glare photovoltaic system to generate sustainable power. Additionally, new EV charging stations will be installed in the courtyard.
Stability & Safety
Oh Objektplanung handled the structural calculations for this ambitious project, ensuring not only durability but also enhanced safety, including an upgraded emergency power supply with a 630-kVA transformer and a 2,000-liter backup tank to meet future energy demands.
Progress and Challenges
The project has been six years in the making, with initial planning beginning in 2018. Originally intended as an energy upgrade, the plans evolved into a complete renovation to meet modern standards. Pandemic-related delays shifted the project timeline, but as of January this year, the overhaul officially commenced, with completion anticipated by June of next year.
Community Benefits and Future Readiness
When fully operational, the revamped office will offer additional workspaces and visitor-friendly upgrades, including expanded waiting areas and bicycle facilities to accommodate the increasing number of employees commuting by bike.
In the words of 3rd Mayor Thomas Leiner, the District Office has become one of the city’s largest investors, underscoring a shared commitment to the area’s growth and future-readiness.
This project exemplifies forward-thinking renovation with a vision to enhance regional infrastructure and improve sustainability, all while preserving the unique architectural heritage of Bad Kissingen.
